Description
Revision eye surgery, commonly referred to as enhancement or corrective surgery, is a procedure undertaken to improve or correct issues following a previous eye surgery such as LASIK, PRK, or cataract surgery. The procedure generally starts with a comprehensive eye examination to determine the patient’s current vision health and identify the specific issues that need correction. This may involve visual acuity tests, corneal topography, and an evaluation of the eye’s overall structure. Once the underlying issue has been pinpointed, the surgeon will discuss the best corrective options with the patient. Depending on the complexity, this could range from a simple laser adjustment for residual refractive errors to more intricate procedures like replacing a misaligned intraocular lens (IOL). The surgery itself often necessitates the use of advanced laser technology to accurately reshape the cornea or fine-tune previous adjustments. The patient is typically administered numbing eye drops to ensure a pain-free experience, and sometimes mild sedatives might be provided to help with relaxation.
