Eyelid Retraction Repair
Description
Eyelid retraction repair is a surgical procedure that aims to correct eyelids that are pulled abnormally high or low, exposing a large part of the eyeball and causing discomfort, dryness or tearing. This condition commonly arises from involutional changes due to aging, thyroid eye disease, previous eyelid surgery, eye trauma or birth defects. The primary goal of retraction repair is to reposition the eyelid to its normal state, increasing comfort and improving the eye’s appearance. The surgery can be performed either on the upper or lower eyelid and, in some cases, both. The specifics of the surgery will depend on the cause and severity of the retraction, as well as the patient’s overall health. During the procedure, the patient is typically under local anesthesia with sedation. The surgeon makes an incision either inside or outside the eyelid, right below the lower lashes for the lower eyelid, and in the natural crease of the lid for the upper eyelid. Through this incision, the surgeon manages to release the retracted eyelid and reposition it using either internal or external techniques. The process may involve grafting with substances such as hard palate mucosa, sclera, or spacer materials if additional support is needed. Once the eyelid is properly positioned, the incisions are carefully stitched closed. After the procedure, the patient is usually advised to apply cold compresses to the area and to use eye ointments to help with healing and to avoid infection. The recovery period varies, but most patients notice a significant improvement in comfort and appearance within a few weeks.
Ailments treated by this procedure: Lower Eyelid Laxity, Lagophthalmos, Cosmetic Disfigurement, Unnatural Surgical Appearance, Scleral Show, Ectropion, Tearing, Blurry Vision, and Dry Eyes

At Siseon Plastic Surgery, we specialize in a variety of precise and effective cosmetic procedures, prominently offered by board-certified surgeon Dr. Shin. Our clinic is known for its exceptional post-operative care and patient satisfaction. Eyelid Surgery Non-incisional Ptosis Correction involves a minimally invasive technique to address drooping eyelids, enhancing the appearance of the eyes without the need for incisions. This procedure is suitable for patients who prefer a quicker recovery time and less scarring. Incisional Ptosis Correction is a more extensive approach to correct droopy eyelids by making incisions to lift the eyelids. This method provides a more permanent result for patients with severe ptosis. Incisional Ptosis Correction with Lateral Canthoplasty combines lifting the drooping eyelids with the reshaping of the outer corners of the eyes. This procedure enhances eye symmetry and overall aesthetic appearance. Non-incisional Double Eyelid Surgery creates a natural-looking crease in the eyelid without incisions, ideal for patients who want an enhanced eyelid fold with less downtime. Incision Double Eyelid Surgery offers a more defined and permanent eyelid crease by making small incisions on the eyelids. This procedure is recommended for patients seeking long-lasting results. Upper Blepharoplasty (Ptosis) + Eyebrow Lift + Full Canthoplasty combines multiple procedures to address upper eyelid sagging, elevate the eyebrows, and reshape the inner and outer corners of the eyes. This comprehensive approach rejuvenates the overall eye area for a more youthful look. Eyebrow Lift raises drooping eyebrows to open up the eye area and reduce the appearance of hooding on the upper eyelids. This procedure helps create a refreshed and lifted look. Canthoplasty Lateral Canthoplasty involves reshaping the outer corners of the eyes to enhance eye length and correct droopiness, resulting in a more youthful and attractive eye shape. Dual Canthoplasty combines both medial and lateral canthoplasty to address the inner and outer corners of the eyes simultaneously. This dual approach maximizes aesthetic enhancement and symmetry. Complete Canthoplasty integrates multiple techniques to reshape the entire canthus area, achieving comprehensive aesthetic improvements around the eyes. This method is ideal for patients desiring significant eye shape changes. Reconstruction/Revision Medial Canthoplasty Reconstruction corrects failed or unsatisfactory outcomes from previous medial canthoplasty procedures. This surgery aims to restore natural appearance and function to the inner eye corners. Epicanthoplasty Reconstruction focuses on repairing and improving the results of prior epicanthoplasty procedures, which aim to elongate the eye shape and reduce the appearance of epicanthal folds. Medial Canthoplasty Reconstruction with Lowering Lower Eyelid combines corrective surgery for the inner corners of the eyes with repositioning the lower eyelids to enhance eye aesthetics. This comprehensive approach addresses both upper and lower eyelid concerns. We take pride in our constant follow-up service to ensure the best possible post-operation care, going above and beyond to meet our patients' needs and concerns. At Siseon Plastic Surgery, your satisfaction and safety are our utmost priorities.
