Recurrent Balanitis
Description
Recurrent balanitis, also known as repeated balanitis, chronic balanoposthitis, or recurring inflammation of the penis head and foreskin, is a bothersome condition where the glans and surrounding foreskin become irritated, red, and inflamed multiple times. This can cause pain, swelling, itching, and significant discomfort during urination or intimate activity. Often seen in uncircumcised men, chronic balanitis is sometimes confused with other names like inflammation of the glans, penile irritation, or long-term foreskin infection. Causes may include poor hygiene, diabetes, infections (such as candidal balanitis), reactions to soaps or personal care products, and certain skin conditions. If left untreated, recurrent balanitis can lead to complications like phimosis (tight foreskin), scarring, painful urination, and even an increased risk of penile cancer. Fortunately, effective treatments and permanent solutions, such as circumcision, are available, especially when visiting top medical tourism destinations like South Korea.
