Ligamentolysis
Description
Ligamentolysis is a urological surgical procedure primarily performed to increase the visible length of the penis. The procedure involves releasing (cutting) the suspensory ligament, which anchors the penis to the pubic bone. By freeing this ligament, a greater portion of the penile shaft that normally lies inside the body becomes externally visible, resulting in an apparent length increase when the penis is in a flaccid state. It is important to note that ligamentolysis does not increase the actual anatomical length of the penis, nor does it significantly change erect length in most cases. The procedure is typically performed under local or general anesthesia and is often combined with post-operative traction therapy or stretching devices to prevent reattachment of the ligament and to help maintain the achieved length. Recovery generally involves temporary swelling, bruising, and activity restrictions, with most patients resuming normal daily activities within a few weeks. As with any surgical intervention, ligamentolysis carries risks, including scarring, instability of the penis during erection, dissatisfaction with cosmetic results, and potential changes in erection angle. For this reason, thorough consultation, realistic expectation-setting, and careful patient selection are essential before proceeding.
