Chin Implant

The chin implant procedure, also known as genioplasty or mentoplasty, typically begins with a thorough consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon to discuss the patient's aesthetic goals and medical history. On the day of the surgery, the patient is placed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the complexity of the operation and the patient's preference. The surgeon begins by making a small incision, either inside the mouth along the lower lip or externally underneath the chin, to minimize visible scarring. Through this incision, a carefully selected biocompatible implant, usually made of silicone or another safe material, is inserted and positioned over the mandibular bone. This implant enhances the chin's contour, providing a more balanced and harmonious facial profile.

Once the implant is securely in place and the desired aesthetic outcome is achieved, the surgeon meticulously closes the incision with sutures. If the incision was made inside the mouth, it dissolves naturally over time, while external incisions may require suture removal during a follow-up appointment. The entire procedure typically takes about one to two hours, after which the patient is monitored in a recovery area before being discharged. Post-operative care includes managing swelling and discomfort with prescribed medication, avoiding strenuous activities, and following detailed care instructions to ensure proper healing. Patients are usually advised to keep their head elevated and to avoid putting pressure on their chin. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor progress and to ensure the implant integrates smoothly with the natural bone structure, resulting in a defined and aesthetically pleasing chin enhancement.
