Description
Philtrum reduction surgery, also known as upper lip lift or subnasal lip lift, is a cosmetic procedure designed to shorten the length of the philtrum, the area between the nose and the upper lip. The surgery begins with the administration of local anesthesia to numb the area, though general anesthesia may be used in some cases. The surgeon makes an incision along the base of the nose, often following the natural curve to minimize visible scarring. After making the incision, a predetermined amount of skin is excised to shorten the philtrum. In some cases, the surgeon might also reposition underlying muscles to create a more prominent upper lip. Once the excess skin is removed and adjustments are made, the surgeon carefully sutures the incision site, ensuring proper alignment and minimal tension to promote optimal healing and reduce scar visibility. Sterile dressings are then applied to protect the area.
