Introduction: Why I Finally Did Under-Eye Surgery

I’m a 54-year-old guy from London, and my experience with under-eye surgery in Korea didn’t start with some long-term plan. It actually began while I was abroad, when a friend recommended The Plus Plastic Surgery. I’m not much of a planner—I’m very in-the-moment—so I didn’t arrive in Seoul with a rigid checklist of what I wanted to change. But I did know one thing: I wanted to feel like the face I saw in the mirror matched how I felt inside.

Before surgery, I wasn’t walking around lacking confidence. That wasn’t my issue. The issue was that I didn’t feel tired, but I looked tired. And I got tired of having to explain it away with, “Well, I’m middle-aged now—I’m getting older.” What I wanted was simple: a better balance between my mental state and my physical appearance.

Choosing The Plus in a Sea of Clinics in Seoul

Once I got to Seoul, I did what anyone should do—I researched. In Sinsa-dong, you can throw a stone and hit a hundred clinics, and they’re basically all around the block. I reached out to a bunch of places by email and text about a month before deciding.

From the very beginning, The Plus stood out. I don’t know if it was the person specifically assigned to foreign patients or just the clinic’s general system, but the way they responded was fast and professional. That matters more than people think, especially when you’re overseas and trying to make decisions about your body. Their communication didn’t feel salesy. Right away, I felt like they weren’t just trying to get my business—they were trying to put me at ease.

And that’s the word I keep coming back to: consistent. Anyone can do whatever it takes to get clients in the beginning, but The Plus stayed consistent from start to finish. To me, that consistency starts with the surgeon in charge, and it filters through the whole team. Everyone I dealt with was kind and honest—at least that’s been my experience.

What I Had Done—and Why I Appreciated the Approach

I came in for under-eye surgery (lower blepharoplasty) along with fat grafting. But in my mind, I still describe it simply as: I just had my eyes done. It wasn’t about chasing some dramatic transformation.

One of the biggest reasons I felt good about choosing this clinic was that I didn’t feel pushed. The surgeon didn’t over-recommend or try to sell me on things I didn’t need. That’s a big deal in aesthetic medicine, because it’s easy for expectations to start snowballing once you begin talking about “what else” you could do.

Instead, I felt like the clinic managed my expectations in a realistic way. They found that balance between what they expected to deliver for me and what I was willing to accept. And when that’s balanced, you end up satisfied.

Immediately After Surgery: Pain, Doubt, and Then Calm

Let me be honest: immediately after surgery, it hurt. My first thought was, “What the hell did I do?” That moment of doubt was real.

But I’m also very much someone who lives in the present. What’s done is done. And even though the physical pain was there, mentally I still felt like I’d made the right choice. Both before and after the procedure, the staff made everything comfortable, and they were personable. At the end of the day, people do business with people, and I felt taken care of as a person—not processed like a transaction.

The Hardest Part of Recovery Wasn’t What You’d Expect

The toughest part of my recovery came down to two things—and neither of them was physical.

First: smoking. I’ve smoked and enjoyed smoking my whole life, and honestly, it’s probably a big reason my skin has aged quickly. The receptionist and the surgical team recommended I quit for a month. But I’m a good negotiator, so I negotiated it down to one week. That week ended yesterday, and at dinner—since it was my last night in Seoul—I smoked about 20 cigarettes to make up for lost time. That was the hardest part of recovery for me.

Second: drinking. I wasn’t in Seoul only for surgery—I have clients here too—so not being able to enjoy wine was tough. If you’re someone who has routines and pleasures tied to travel and business, those restrictions can feel like the real sacrifice.

Physically, though, recovery was fine. There was no infection, and there wasn’t any physical pain afterward. The only difficult part was looking at my own face while it was bruised and swollen. Swelling and bruising can mess with your head, because you’re watching yourself change day by day. But even that was manageable. Overall, it was fine.

Results So Far: Happy Now, and Letting Healing Do Its Job

When it comes to results, I look at it in two parts.

First, I didn’t come with expectations because I hadn’t “planned” this in the traditional way. But the moment you pay money for a service, you naturally expect a certain standard. And even if you start with zero expectations, you still end up seeing before-and-after photos everywhere—and that can create unrealistic ideas in your mind.

Right now, I love how I look. At the same time, I’m realistic: I need to let everything fully heal, and to me that means giving it a solid three months.

Do I hope it looks even better after full healing? Sure—but not in a “better, better, better” way. More like it triggers the thought, “Hmm… what would I want next?” I don’t know if that’s psychological, or a placebo effect, or just human nature. But it’s something I think everyone needs to manage when they step into the aesthetic world.

Overall, though, I’m extremely happy—not just with the outcome, but with the service The Plus provided.

Comfort and Confidence: Looking How I Feel

I’m not someone who lacks confidence. If you met me, you’d probably feel my energy.

I didn’t do under-eye surgery because I wanted confidence. I did it because my mental state and physical appearance didn’t match. I wasn’t tired, but I looked tired. And I wanted that alignment.

That was my number-one priority—and I think I’ve achieved it. I don’t think I look tired anymore. In fact, I only slept three hours, but thanks to the magic of The Plus’s hands, that balance is there now.

Follow-Up Care: Stitches Out, Real Talk Included

My first follow-up appointment was also my stitch-removal day. They warned me it would sting a little. The surgeon used local anesthesia—and I’m not going to sugarcoat it, that hurt like hell.

Still, the overall aftercare experience was good. Honestly, it was pretty entertaining, which says a lot about the atmosphere. When you’re in a post-op situation—especially in a country that isn’t your home—being around a team that can keep things comfortable and human makes a huge difference.

Would I Recommend Under-Eye Surgery at The Plus?

One hundred percent.

I put my money where my mouth is, and I believe any aesthetic procedure—whether invasive or not—comes down to trust. You’re trusting a clinic with your body. That’s the most important thing.

On that front, if 10 is the top score, I’d give The Plus a 10. Results matter too, of course, but results depend on the clinic, the surgeon, and you. For me, it matched what they expected to deliver and what I was willing to accept—and that’s why I’m satisfied.

Conclusion: My Advice to Anyone Thinking About It

I agreed to share my story because I genuinely enjoyed my week in Seoul and my time at The Plus—and because I wanted to help others who might be sitting on the fence, wondering, “Should I do it or not?”

image

My advice is simple: just do it. There’s no endless “Let me think about it.” You either do it or you don’t. And if someone is even considering it, that’s already a sign they want it. Everyone’s worries are different, everyone’s concerns are different, but people should do what they want in life and have no regrets.

As for me, I’m meeting the surgeon again and the only question on my mind is what I might do in the future—maybe three, four, five years down the line. But for now, I’m happy. I feel like my outside finally matches my inside, and that was the whole point.
