Description
Veneers are thin shells made from porcelain or composite resin that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to enhance their appearance. The procedure to apply veneers generally involves two main appointments with the dentist. During the initial visit, a comprehensive assessment is performed. This includes a discussion about the patient's desired outcome, an examination of the teeth, and possibly taking X-rays. The dentist will then prepare the tooth by removing a very thin layer of enamel from the surface, comparable to the thickness of the veneer. This is done to ensure a natural fit and look once the veneer is applied. Impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where the custom veneers are crafted, a process that can take a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, temporary veneers might be placed to protect the teeth. In the second appointment, the dentist will check the fit and color of the veneers to ensure they meet the patient's expectations. The teeth will then be cleaned, polished, and etched to create a suitable surface for bonding. Special dental cement is applied to the veneer, which is then placed on the tooth. Once correctly positioned, a special light beam is used to harden the cement, ensuring the veneer is securely attached. Excess cement is removed, and the dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit. The final step involves evaluating the bite and making further modifications if needed. Post-procedure, patients are given care instructions to maintain the veneers and advised to attend regular dental check-ups to monitor their condition.
