Tip Plasty

The tip plasty is a specialized cosmetic procedure focused solely on reshaping the nasal tip to improve its appearance or functionality. Initially, the patient is prepared under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity and extent of the surgery. The surgeon makes precise incisions, typically using a closed (endonasal) approach where incisions are made inside the nostrils, or an open (external) approach involving a small incision on the columella, the tissue between the nostrils. Through these incisions, the surgeon gains access to the underlying cartilage and tissues of the nasal tip. Cartilage is then meticulously reshaped, repositioned, or augmented using autologous cartilage grafts (from the patient's own septum, ear, or rib) to achieve the desired projection, rotation, and definition.

Once the desired shape is achieved, incisions are carefully closed with sutures that minimize scarring. The nostrils may be temporarily packed with soft material to stabilize the new shape and reduce bleeding. An external splint or tape might be applied to support the tip during the initial healing phase. The procedure typically takes around one to two hours, depending on the complexity. Post-operative care involves instructions on how to manage swelling and bruising, which peaks within the first week and gradually subsides. Patients are usually advised to avoid strenuous activities and protect the nose from trauma as it heals. Follow-up appointments are essential to monitor healing progress and ensure the desired results are achieved.
